DUTIES:


  • Support the Office of Special Education Services’ goals, objectives, operational procedures, and act as program advocate within the building.
  • Act as liaison between administrators and faculty/staff to facilitate educational programming for students with disabilities.
  • Coordinate campus ARD/IEP committee meetings and monitor the implementation of ARD/IEP decisions, graduation plans, transition services, and instructional testing, as necessary.
  • Monitor campus case management.
  • Regularly attend all relevant professional development opportunities to remain current with federal, state and local guidelines relating to special education.
  • Coordinate compilation of information related to litigation for TEA or OSEP complaints.
  • Provide information to parents and other persons regarding special education services and curriculum.
  • Arrange and/or conduct in-services related to the education and service for students with disabilities.
  • Work with teachers and the building principal to identify curriculum needs and suggest ways to update and modify curriculum design, strategies and materials.
  • Assist with the acquisition and distribution of instructional materials, TEKS, course syllabi, CLEAR Online, and other resources.
  • Coordinate and support departmental implementation of district curriculum.
  • Coordinate the review and analysis of building-level test results and lead in the development of departmental plans to address areas in need of improvement.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled departmental meetings and include others as required; submit copies of agenda to the building principal and the Senior Manager for Special Education Programs.
  • Perform the duties requested by the Office of Special Education Services and respective Field Office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.


LIST OF TASKS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT CHAIRPERSONS


  • Schedule ARD/IEP committee meetings.
  • Coordinate transition services discussion and planning as part of the ARD/IEP committee meeting
  • Support the case management process by identifying case managers to provide continuity and consistency for the student’s instructional program and equitably distributing of responsibilities/assignments among team member
  • Providing a list of ARD/IEP dates to case managers
  • Developing an annual ARD/IEP master calendar
  • Scheduling classroom coverage for teachers who will participate in ARD/IEP committee meetings to ensure students’ educational program is uninterrupted, meetings begin on time and appropriate staff participate in the meeting
  • Distributing notice of ARD/IEP committee meetings
  • Working collaboratively with the campus administrator to assign case manager responsibilities which includes 30 day ARD/IEP committee meetings
  • Coordinate internal campus audit of student eligibility folders
  • Coordinate the dissemination of modifications/accommodations; behavior goals and objectives; schedule of service; and any other pertinent documents needed to provide instruction
  • Advise parent/adult student of their rights in accordance with procedural safeguards (record process on Receipt of Procedural Safeguards form) and transfer of parental rights
  • Request independent educational evaluations (IEE) by completing the ARD/IEP SUPPLEMENT: Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)
  • Input special education Chancery SIS information (funding) or provide to appropriate personnel
  • Process and track referrals for related services screening or evaluation
  • Obtain consent for related service evaluation from parent/guardian or adult student
  • Complete transportation forms online
  • Record communication with parent/adult students
  • Coordinate and assist with standardized testing (required local and state assessment)
  • Request or forward student eligibility folders or their program-related contents when necessary
  • File and maintain active and inactive student eligibility folders
  • Coordinate internal campus audit of student eligibility folders
  • Request surrogate parents by submitting to the Parent Liaison the Request for Surrogate Parent and Verification form
  • Coordinate the development and updating of goals and objectives
  • Coordinate scheduling of vocational testing in the 8th grade or earlier, if needed
  • Utilize district technology resources to access student information
  • Attend/participate in professional development opportunities and share the information with campus personnel
  • Facilitate the preparation of ARD/IEP information using Online Special Education Management System.
  • Serve as liaison with school staff and mentor to new teachers
  • Oversee special education student promotion, graduation and the student success initiative (SSI)
  • Supervise paraprofessional duties and responsibilities
  • Coordinate the compilation of information related to litigation, due process hearings, mediations or Office of Civil Rights (OCR) complaints
